Michael Donald Kirby (born 18 March 1939) is an Australian jurist and academic who is a former Justice of the High Court of Australia, serving from 1996 to 2009. He has remained active in retirement; in May 2013 he was appointed by the United Nations Human Rights Council to lead an inquiry into human rights abuses in North Korea, which reported in February 2014. Early life and education Michael Donald Kirby was born on 18 March 1939 at Crown Street Women's Hospital to Donald and Jean Langmore (née Knowles) Kirby. He was the eldest of five siblings, followed by twins Donald William and David Charles (the latter died at 18 months from pneumonia), David, and Diana Margaret. In 1943 his grandmother, Norma Gray, remarried and her second husband was Jack Simpson, National Treasurer of the Australian Communist Party. Michael Kirby is a street artist who was born in Baltimore, Maryland, United States. His work has been featured and exhibited across the world for governments, cities, museums, and corporations. Biography Michael Kirby went to study in Italy at the age of 18 and learned the techniques of fresco painting. Here he also discovered the art of Street art, street painting or ephemeral murals. He began to create ephemeral pieces in Florence. After a while he began to do more original work on the pavement in larger scales and began to be noticed by more than just tourists of Florence and picked up many jobs as a muralist. Kirby moved to Rome and worked in a studio for 4 years working across Europe creating murals and street paintings. Michael J.R. Kirby (February 20, 1925 – May 25, 2002 in Laguna Niguel, CA) was a Canadian figure skater who competed in men's singles, and was also (for a short while) an actor. Later was an ice rink owner and skating coach. Childhood and youth As a child he suffered from rheumatic fever and started ice-skating for physical therapy. When he turned 16, he became a Canadian national champion. He won the silver medal at the 1941 North American Championships and then won the gold medal at the Canadian Figure Skating Championships in 1942 before turning professional and joining the Ice Follies in 1943. He also competed in fours with Therese McCarthy, Virginia Wilson, and Donald Gilchrist in 1941 and 1942. Career Acting In the later 1940s, Kirby moved to Hollywood and signed a contract with MGM. Michael Kirby (theater)
Michael Stanley Kirby (1931 – February 24, 1997) was a professor of drama at New York University. He wrote several groundbreaking books, including ''Happenings'', ''Futurist Performance'' and ''The Art of Time''. He was editor of ''The Drama Review'' from 1969 to 1986. Although he taught at NYU simultaneously with Richard Schechner and shared an interest in avant-garde performance, he disagreed with Schechner about what should appear in ''TDR'' and about the value of the field that was emerging at the time, performance studies. Kirby believed theatrical events should be documented, not criticized or analyzed using the tools of social sciences. He studied at Princeton University and graduated in 1953, majoring in psychology. He continued his education at Boston University College of Communication where he earned a MFA in directing and then a PhD from BU's drama department.
